So What Does a Coordinator Do and Why do I Need One

When describing what a coordinator does, I think it best to use the analogy of a General Contractor/ Project Manager.  Wedding and Special Event Coordinators are just like Project Managers. An architect would never design a building and then do all of the electrical, plumbing, sheet rock and painting themselves. They would hire a project manager and task them with the responsibility of completion. In other words, the bride and groom design their wedding and a coordinator oversees every step to make the design come to life. Coordinators works with the client from beginning to end, they let the client know what will work and what will not work. Wedding coordinators will instruct you to higher the right vendors to fit YOUR NEEDS.  Not one wedding is a like, just like not one building project is a like.   When you work with a coordinator, we are looking out for your best interest, whether that be; keeping you on budget, brainstorming original ideas that are a reflection of you, finding vendors that complement your style, scouring eBay, etsy and craiglists for special decor items, finding the best deal on your rental items, reminding family and bridal party that this is YOUR wedding and not theirs, negotiating contracts and hotel blocks, assembling invitations, favor boxes and pomanders, making banners and special signage and honestly just about anything else that will arise! Coordinators are organized, resourceful, crafty and above all, want you to have a beautiful event that you get to enjoy. Even the simplest affair requires so much planning, nothing will ever just work itself out.  Every step of your wedding will need to be discussed, thought out and documented, just like a blue-print! Some of you might be thinking "oh, my mom and aunt can do all of that" I will be the first to tell you that "they would rather come and enjoy your wedding, instead of being put to work!" The other down fall of using just your family is that you, the bride and groom with be bothered and questioned on an average of 200 times during your event, leaving your zero time to relax and enjoy your wedding.  The bridal couple will naturally become the coordinators of their own event if they opt to not hire a professional wedding coordinator. Good coordinators will work with you and your families to keep you organized, focused, excited, stress free, timely, on budget and achieve your vision.
