Wedding Tradition = Decorating the Car Re-post

This has proven to be a popular post on my blog so I have decided to re-post for any of you who might have missed it the first time.  Enjoy!

One of the traditions that the bridal party definitely looks forward to is decorating the getaway car.  After months and months of appointments, dress and tux try-outs and parties, the wedding party gets payback on the bride and groom by covering their car in paint, balloons, streamers and tin cans.  As they drive away a Just Married sign is revealed in the back window and the tin cans can be heard clear down the road. (Tin cans have been a tradition long before shoe polish and streamers, as it was believed that evil spirits would attack newlyweds, tin can were tied to the back of the getaway vehicle to ward off any bad spirits) As much as we all love this tradition it seems to be slowly fading away as more couples opt to rent a special vehicle to be transported to their final destination in. Keep this tradition alive by having the bridal party contact the transportation company to see what is and is not allowed.  If you are a bride that does not want her car to be decorated, turn the tables on your guests.  Have the valets decorate their cars!  You can have them hang thank you cards from their rear view mirrors, tie a balloon to the antenna or attach a cute magnet to the door.  Either way, everyone will have a little fun!
